About Trout Unlimited

For more than forty years, Trout Unlimited has played the leading role in protecting one of America's last great national treasures: our nation's trout and salmon populations. By combining "on the ground" restoration efforts with cutting-edge scientific research and effective advocacy on behalf of our coldwater fisheries, TU has been an effective steward for trout and salmon nationwide.

Challenges to our fisheries

Our trout and salmon face constant threats from a number of directions. Dams interfere with free flowing rivers and block migration of salmon and trout, while acid rain poisons mountain streams. What's more, erosion from unchecked logging operations and poisons from loosely regulated hard rock mines are slowly destroying our rivers and streams. Even some species of trout and salmon in danger of vanishing forever are often ignored by lawmakers. And as hard as it is to believe, some laws allow landowners to drain every inch of a common body of water for their own use, leaving fish high and dry.

Trout Unlimited works for you

TU's unique combination of grassroots, scientific, and policy initiatives together form an effective strategy for protecting our trout and salmon - and the sport you love - for many years in the future.

Through nearly 500 chapters nationwide, TU organizes grassroots stream restoration projects, conservation programs and youth conservation events.

TU's Coldwater Conservation Fund provides hundreds of thousands of dollars annually for groundbreaking scientific research on threats to coldwater fisheries.

National fundraising initiatives like TU's member-funded Embrace-A-Stream program help improve coldwater habitat on the local level.

TU also works at the state and federal level, providing a voice for fish and coldwater resources, strengthening existing protections and challenging new threats to trout and salmon.
